Battery Not Holding Charge
Symptoms: Battery percentage drops rapidly even with solar panels connected, or the camera won't stay charged above a low threshold.
The Long-Range 2K Solar camera is powered by a 2000mAh battery and is expected to last for up to 2 months, depending on usage.
Likely Causes:
- Battery naturally degraded from age or charge cycles
- Solar panel not delivering enough charge to offset usage
- Extreme heat or cold affecting battery performance and reported capacity
- High-drain settings (continuous recording, high video quality, frequent triggers) exceeding what the panel can replenish
- Loose or corroded battery/panel connector
Steps to Resolve:
- Confirm the camera is receiving a charge at all. Check the app's charging indicator during direct sunlight hours.
- Inspect the panel cable and connector for damage, corrosion, or a loose seal.
- Minimise motion triggers to reduce power draw. Battery cameras are not designed to handle many recordings within short periods. The recommended amount is between 15-20 recordings per day.
- Below the recommended operating temperature — battery capacity and charge acceptance drop significantly below 20°C and above roughly 60°C. If the camera is installed in an extreme climate, this may be expected behavior rather than a fault.
- Let the camera charge with the sensitivity lowered to zero, in full sun for a full day and monitor whether the battery percentage climbs. If it does not increase at all in direct sun, this points to a battery or charging circuit fault rather than a usage issue.
- If the solar charging appears normal and the battery life improves after reducing the daily recordings, you may want to add an external solar panel to your camera to help boost the solar regeneration rate. This is often the best solution for monitoring high traffic areas.
- If the camera is more than 2 years old, battery wear is usually expected, as capacity naturally declines over repeated charge cycles.
Still having Issues?
If the solar panel is confirmed to be delivering power (charging indicator active) but the battery percentage does not increase after a full day of direct sun, escalate as a likely battery fault.
