Access Point Won't Pair With The HaLowLink App

Applies to: HaLowLink APX Access Point, HaLowLink mobile app

Symptoms

  • The app doesn't find the Access Point after scanning the QR code.
  • "Pair Device" gets stuck on a loading screen or times out.
  • The QR code won't scan at all.

Before you start

  1. Confirm the Access Point is powered and connected via USB-C and check that at least one LED is lit. If no LEDs are lit at all, this is a power issue, not a pairing issue (check the cable and power source first).
  2. Confirm the antenna is attached. The Access Point ships with an external SMA Wi-Fi HaLow antenna. If the antenna is loose or missing, it will affect pairing and general operations.
  3. Make sure your phone has a working internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) and camera permissions enabled for the HaLowLink app, since pairing uses the camera to scan the QR code.

Step-by-step fix

  1. Re-scan the QR code.
Clean the phone camera lens, make sure the QR code on the bottom label of the Access Point is well lit and not obstructed by glare, and hold the phone 10–15 cm away.

  2. Restart the pairing flow.
Close and reopen the HaLowLink app, then select "Pair Device" again from the start.

  3. Restart the Access Point.
Unplug the USB-C cable, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in. Wait for the Status LED to settle before trying to pair again.

  4. Try push-button pairing instead of the QR code.
The Access Point supports Wi-Fi Easy Connect (DPP) push-button pairing via the SET button on the unit. If the QR method keeps failing, follow the in-app prompt for push-button pairing as an alternative.

  5. Check for network isolation.
If your phone is on a guest Wi-Fi network, a corporate/school network, or a VPN, pairing can fail because those networks often block device discovery. Temporarily switch your phone to your normal home Wi-Fi network or mobile data and try again.

  6. Update the app.
Confirm you're running the latest version of the HaLowLink app from the App Store or Play Store. Setup issues are frequently fixed in app updates rather than device firmware.

  7. Move closer for initial setup.
Keep the Access Point within about a metre of the home router during pairing. Long-range performance is one of this device's strengths once set up, but the initial handshake is more reliable at close range.

Still not working?

If the Access Point still won't pair after trying the steps above, raise a support ticket for further troubleshooting or contact the support team directly. To help speed up the diagnosis, please have the device with you when calling.
