[Security Cameras](https://support.halowlink.com/security-cameras?hsLang=en-au) 11 September 2026 # Battery Drain from Frequent Push Notifications or Triggers ## Symptoms: Battery depletes faster than expected in an otherwise sunny, well-placed installation, correlating with high notification/event volume. The HaLowlink camera is powered by Lithium batteries to offer the convenience of not requiring a certified electrician to deploy electrical components to your premise or building. It has a built-in solar panel to harvest solar energy that recharge the camera over-time. However, the charging capability is limited by the direction of the sun, time of day and the weather. If you're recieving alot of push notificaitons, it means your camera is detecting alot of motion within the detection zone. Too many detections will cause the battery to drain much faster than it can harnest power. ### **Likely Causes:** - Motion sensitivity too high, causing excessive triggers. - Detection zone too broad, capturing high-traffic areas (street, sidewalk, tree line) - Continuous or high-frequency clip recording of irrelevant events. - High frequency of Live View, increasing power draw per event. - Short re-trigger interval causing back-to-back recordings ### **Steps to Resolve:** 1. **Reduce false/excess triggers first.** Every unnecessary trigger consumes battery for processing, recording, and transmitting. Refer to this [article](https://support.halowlink.com/false-motion-triggers?hsLang=en-au) for asisstance. 2. **Add Sleep Period** Increase the re-trigger/cooldown interval between recordings so a single lingering subject doesn't generate repeated clips. You can update the **Sleep Period** via the app in the camera settings, under **Video & Audio**. Increasing the Sleep Period will increase the time it takes to record the next event. 3. **Minimise your LV sessions** Avoid opening the app or clicking the notifications to view every recordings, except notifications that are triggered by Person Detection. 4. **Isolation test** If you have multiple cameras and only one camera is having issues with battery drain, swap the camera with another one that does not experience the same issue to see if you can replciate the problem. 5. **Battery test** Reduce the sensitivity level to zero and see if the battery continues kto drain, even without any recordings. 6. **Add a solar panel** The inbuilt solar panel is designed with high efficiency to maximises the regen rate. However, due to it's compact form, it is limited to only 1Wh. Adding an external solar panel can boost the solar harvesting rate by 3-4 times.
